IAA manifesto 2010

The Independent Academies Association is the national association representing Academy Principals and Chairs of Governors. We are open both to existing academies and to those being developed.

Academies are independent non‐fee non‐selective schools that are funded by central government. With over 200 academies already open and 100 more due to open in 2010, academies are already an important and innovative part of education in England. Both the
Government and main Opposition are committed to academy expansion.

Academies typically replace failing schools and most are located in areas of significant social disadvantage. But their combination of strong leadership, independence and innovation is leading to fast‐improving exam results, averaging a rate of improvement twice the national average.

However, as the academies movement continues to grow, it is important that the main political parties continue to recognise the reasons for our success. The IAA is a non‐partisan organisation. This manifesto highlights our views on the key issues facing academies that we hope will be embraced by all the main political parties in the forthcoming general
election.
