IAA is an acknowledged national body which is regularly consulted by government and opposition on matters relating to educational change and development. The Board holds thrice-yearly meetings with the incumbent Schools Minister and interim meetings with senior civil servants in order to represent members' views on policy and strategy. The association works to secure amendments to Education Bills and other relevant legislation and responds to government consultations on a range of issues.

For several years, the IAA has promoted networking opportunities and provided a support mechanism for state-funded independent schools. Two major conferences a year are held for members and non-members alike, in October and February, with themed member-only events at other times. Contact between members and with other agencies capable of offering advice and support is provided through our website, email, telephone, as well as face-to-face. A regular email newsletter keeps members up-to date with IAA activity and new opportunities.

An ever increasing range of strategic partnerships and alliances with other national representative bodies, providers and suppliers means that the benefits and assistance available to members are constantly evolving, evidencing the power of 'networking networks'.

One example of recent work with the National College has been the design and delivery of leadership development programmes, including an NPQH module for Academy Principalship and the Associate Academy Principals Scheme.

We also aim to promote a positive public image and reputation for Academies and other state-funded independent schools by means of media and PR activity.
